It's full-bodied and layered with plenty of ripe fruit, but then it tightens at the end, with flavors of black currants, bark, flowers, dark tobacco, graphite and citrus acidity. Lively at the end. 80 cabernet sauvignon and 20 merlot. Best after 2029. - 97 Punkte JEB DUNNUCK (032026): A blend of 80 Cabernet Sauvignon and 20 Merlot aged 18 months in 70 new French oak, the 2023 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron is another classic wine from this impeccably run estate, which I suspect is making some of its greatest wines today. Ripe currants, spicy wood, graphite, and tobacco all emerge on the nose, and its medium to full-bodied, with a pure, graceful mouthfeel, plenty of tannins, and outstanding length. Reminding me of the 2008, and perhaps even the 2019, its a very classy, aristocratic style of Pichon Baron that stands out for its balance and length. Give bottles 4-5 years and enjoy them over the following 25+ years. There are roughly 12,600 cases produced. Drink 2030-2060. - 97- 98 Punkte IZAK LITWAR: There is an intense aroma of blackcurrants and tobacco, with hints of mint. The palate is dense, concentrated, and supported by a strong backbone. It is vibrant and has excellent mid-palate. This wine is complete, showing great complexity, richness, and excellent length, with a long and substantial aftertaste. Tremendous effort. 2037-2060. - 97 Punkte DECANTER, Georgina Hindle: Perfumed nose, fragrant and so scented, a touch of blackcurrant leaf, plum, graphite and dark chocolate. Silky soft, bright and so delicately presented. Crunchy and crisp red fruits and ripe black fruits with some spiced undercurrents and wet stone touches. Much lighter in terms of fruit profile than some - summer berries, tangy and vibrant with super fine tannins giving the structure and support. This has finesse and power - less plushness and richness than last year of course - its more sleek and straight, firm and controlled but still has width and layers of flavour and texture. Refined, and definitely cool. Classicism with no overt heat on offer. I love the hint of strawberry sweetness and tannins that completely coat the mouth. I think this will be great in time. Zart floral, schwarze Herzkirschen, etwas Cassis, ein Hauch von Nugat und Gewürzen, facettenreiches Bukett. saftig, komplex und elegant, feine Tannine, gute Frische, extraktsüßer Nachhall, gute Länge, wie aus einem Guss, ein stoffiger Begleiter bei Tisch, sicheres Entwicklungspotenzial. - 97 Punkte WINE CELLAR INSIDER, Jeff Leve: If you like a great cigar, you came to the right place as the first thing you notice is the cigar box, and tobacco wrapper nuances before moving to the smoke, leafy herb, creme de cassis, blackberries, spice, flowers, and forest floor in the perfume. The palate is even better with its multiple layers of black, with red fruits, mouthfuls of fresh, ripe, chewy, red berries, Indian spice, and a lingering finish that holds your focus for at least 50 seconds. The key to the vintage was patience during harvesting to achieve phenolic ripeness. This is the quintessential example of a classic, modern Bordeaux. That is balanced with acidity and powerful black currants, giving the wine freshness. Dark tannins give structure and density to this impressive wine. - 17,5+Punkte JANCIS ROBINSON, Andy Howard MW: 80 Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 Merlot. Bold, full-bodied, dark and brooding. No shortage of heft and power. Tannins are quite firm and drying. Certainly not a shy and retiring Pauillac. But the fruit is precise, pure and there is great acidity underpinning everything. Should develop very well. 2027-2038. - 95 Punkte VINOUS, Neal Martin (022026): The 2023 Pichon Baron has a perfumed bouquet with iris flower-infused black fruit, background scents of orange pith, cedar and blueberry. Very pure and beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with very pliant tannins, crisp and quite linear, impressive mineralité with an almost understated finish if you compare it to the `22. Quintessential Pichon Baron and I would broach this before the ´22. 2029-2060 ;
