Alles über Champagne Chartogne-Taillet St. Anne Extra Brut NV 0.75 L Flasche NV

50 Chardonnay and 50 red Grape varieties (mostly Pinot Noir)
- VINOUS, Antonio Galloni, Champagne Spring Preview (052026): The NV Brut Cuvรฉe Ste.-Anne (base 2023) is laced with hints of dried flowers, chamomile and spice. Open-knit and airy, with lovely mid-palate presence, the Ste.-Anne is a delight. Citrus, marzipan and chamomile build into the refined finish. In this release, the Ste.-Anne is on the more delicate side. This release is based on 2023, with reserve wines from 2022, 2020, 2019 and 2018. Dosage is 3.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: December 2025. 2026-2033.
- 92 Punkte VINOUS, Antonio Galloni (042025): The NV Brut Cuvรฉe Ste.-Anne (base 2022) is terrific. I tasted it in the middle of the range after many of the single-vineyard Champagnes, but the wine did not suffer at all from its placement. If anything, this tasting reinforced my long-held view that the Ste.-Anne is one of the very finest grower Champagnes in its price range. This release, based on 2022, is brisk and energetic to its core. Citrus, white pepper, chalk and floral top notes are finely cut. This is an especially brisk edition of the Ste.-Anne. Chardonnay planted on chalk increasingly plays a leading role in this bottling. Superb. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: October 2024. 2025-2032 Alexandre Chartogne is one of the most thoughtful and introspective vignerons in Champagne. Chartogne also takes a lot more risks with his wines than most, something that might not be evident because of his soft-spoken demeanor and shy personality. If a wine does not meet his exacting standards, he does not bottle it, as was the case with the 2020 Heurtebise. Alexandre Chartognes framework for Champagne divides wines into those that are composed of mostly mineral matter and those that are predominantly organic and are therefore more vulnerable to decomposition. Mineral wines are vinified and aged with minimal oxygenation. The goal is to preserve that mineral character. Chartogne believes that organic wines are less interesting and more likely to age relatively quickly. His goal is to transform some of their organic matter to mineral though gentle oxidation during รฉlevage. As a result, these wines (the Meuniers, for example) see more oxygen during their time in Barrel.
- 92 Punkte JEB DUNNUCK, Audrey Frick (122025): Pouring a straw yellow hue, the NV Champagne Sainte Anne Extra Brut is sourced from the family's vines in Merfy as well as in the Cรดte de Blancs in Avize and is a blend of 50 Chardonnay, 40 Pinot Noir, and the rest Meunier, raised in barrels for nine months before bottling. Its a non-vintage wine, but its entirely from the 2022 vintage. It offers a good deal of depth for an entry range wine, revealing savory notes of crushed stones, chamomile, orchard fruit, and musky floral perfume. It fills the palate with a creamy mousse that lifts it cleanly, and it has a delicate, silky texture and a haunting finish with notes of raw almond. It's going to be prime for enjoying now or over the coming 5-6 years. 2025-2031. Speaking with Alexandre Chartogne at his estate in Merfy, it quickly becomes apparent that his approach to wine is less about wine descriptors and flavor profiles and more philosophical. He believes that it is essential to understand that every place and every corner of Champagne are different, from the soil and subsoil to the culture and people, which differ from village to village and region to region. According to Alexandre, The winemaker is not responsible a great terroir will make great wine.
- 92 Punkte VINOUS, Antonio Galloni (112023): The NV (2019) Brut Cuvรฉe Ste.-Anne is fabulous. Rich, ample and layered, the Brut Cuvรฉe Ste.-Anne hits all the right notes. I especially admire its vinous intensity and overall resonance. Dried pear, flowers mint, white pepper and lemon confit are some of the many notes that grace this exquisite Champagne from Alexandre Chartogne. It' s great to see this bottling
- one of my perennial favorites
- bounce back from a lackluster showing last year. Best of all, Cuvรฉe Ste.-Anne remains an exceptional value in the world of fine grower Champagne. This release is based on 2019. Dosage is 5 grams per liter. Disgorged: June 2022. 2023-2030
- () PETER LIEM champagneguide.net: While this contains 45 percent of reserve wine, it clearly shows the vivacity and intensity of its base vintage, its ripe depth of fruit feeling bright and floral. Its racy structure contrasts an elegant, silky texture, and the aromas persist on the finish with length and poise . Incidentally, beginning with this release, Chartogne has begun using a liqueur for dosage rather than MCR, although how much of a difference that might make, I cannot yet ascertain. Last tasted: 315 . Chartogne-Taillets non-vintage brut is called the Cuvรฉe Sainte-Anne, named for the patron saint of Merfy. Its a fine introduction to the regions terroir
- in the last few years it has become drier and more vinous as Alexandre puts his personal stamp on the wine. Chartogne-Taillets wines are harmonious and deliciously satisfying, and in recent years they have become increasingly more vinous and complex in expression, reflecting the focus on a more sensitive viticulture. They are strongly driven by the terroir of the Massif de St-Thierry, shaped by the sand and clay soils of the region, and they are the finest champagnes being made today in this historically important area north of Reims. While Alexandre Chartogne is not necessarily a partisan of ultra-low dosage, the dosage levels have recently been decreasing here in response to riper fruit, resulting in a more vibrant balance and intensity. Alexandres work so far has been very impressive, and he is well on his way to establishing the estate among Champagne's elite.
- 92 Punkte Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, David Schildknecht: The latest installment of one of my favorite intro-level Champagnes, the Chartogne-Taillet NV Brut Cuvee Ste.-Anne Disg. 62013 pushes the qualitative element even beyond what I recall under this label from two or three years ago, and must be counted (relative to its appellation) as a sensational value. A haunting nose of ocean spray with clam and oyster liquor anticipates the mouthwateringly saline, mysteriously meaty and seaweed-tinged aspects of a polished palate thats also informed by luscious, pit-tinged white peach, fresh lemon and almond. (And were it not for that last trio, here would surely be one of those wondrous instances where you find yourself asking how a wines flavors can possibly come from grapes!) Ultra-juicy and palate
- as well as saliva gland-massaging, the finish here left me licking my lips in anticipation of the next sip. Whats more, this cuvee is among the most versatile at table of any in Champagne. Feel free to follow the current disgorgement for 2-3 years. The blend, by the way, is 60-40 Chardonnay-Pinot and features vintage 2010 with 40 from 2009 and 2008. Under the direction of still-young Alexandre Chartogne, the wines of Chartogne-Taillet long praised, yet in my view still under-rated seem to be going from strength to strength, fueled by exemplary experimentalism and attention to detail, not to mention passion. Among the more conspicuous recent innovations at this cellar in out-of-the way Merfy (on the Massif de Saint-Thierry immediately northwest of Reims) is the use of concrete eggs for fermentation and aging, a shape and material designed to enhance lees contact via Brownian motion. The emergence here of single-cepage single-vineyard bottlings, reflects a trend among intrepid young Champagne vintners. And the aforementioned experimentalism naturally encompasses serious dosage trials, with results that consistently hit the sweet spots of expression (even if these are not literally in the least sweet).
- TASTE MAGAZIN Britta Wiegelmann: Fundstรผck: Champagner mit Gefรผhl: Lassen Sie Lanson links liegen, pfeifen Sie auf Piper, verschmรคhen Sie Veuve Clicquot.
- 92 Punkte TYSON STELZER The Champagne Guide: Chartogne-Taillet's entry wine is always good value, a blend from across estate Merfy vineyards. An ever-increasing reliance on pinot noir is showcased in depth and presence of red cherry, strawberry and lemon fruit. It presents fine minerality supported by well-integrated acidity, finishing long and fine with nicely textured mouthfeel and a fine bead. Notes of charcuterie sit behind the fruit. An enticingly full, fleshy finish contrasts with its salt mineral texture and bright acidity. Definitive Merfy.
- 91 Punkte Robert Parkers WINE ADVOCATE, William Kelley (12022): Based on the 2018 vintage and disgorged in March 2021 with five grams per liter dosage, Chartogne's newly released NV Brut Sainte Anne reveals inviting aromas of pear, white peach, fresh bread and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and charming, it's seamless and enveloping, with a generous core of fruit, lively acids and a pillowy mousse. It's a lovely wine that wears its heart on its sleeve.
- 92 Punkte WINESPECTATOR (102021): A distinctive Champagne, high-toned and floral with its cherry blossom and spice aromatics accenting the steeped raspberry, orange peel and salted almond flavors. Finely textured, like raw silk on the palate, this is bright and mouthwatering on the lingering finish. Disgorged January 2021. Drink now through 2024. ;

Champagne Chartogne-Taillet
